Doula training 2026
Do you want to work in connection with births and education for expectant and new parents?
A doula is a woman who supports other women and their families during pregnancy and childbirth. The support consists of presence, education and warmth – "mothering the mother".
The program is suitable for anyone who is passionate about the birth process and wants to gain a deeper understanding and skills in birth support. If you are passionate about supporting women and pregnant women, the doula program is for you.
Participants in the program come from a variety of backgrounds, some have a strong personal interest in childbirth, others are yoga teachers, massage therapists, or are pursuing further education related to childbirth and others want to be present at the big moments of relatives or friends.
In the program, we dive deep into childbirth and birth support.
Among the things covered are:

structure of visits during pregnancy and confinement
pregnant women's bodies and changes
Different births – different support
practical support
birth stories and birth experiences
the newborn and breastfeeding
parent-child relationship

About the study
The study takes place over a period of several months, is partly in on-site sessions, and is also a distance learning course that can be managed at one's own pace and therefore requires independent working methods.
After the course, students should have a good understanding of what it is to be a doula, what the doula's field of work is and how they work. After the course, students should have a good insight into support during pregnancy and childbirth and have a solid understanding of the birth process.

The program is led by Soffí Bæringsdóttir, doula, childbirth educator and family therapist, Guðrún Björnsdóttir, doula, and Hálla Vígdís, doula.
Limited number of participants.
The study is expected to take two years in total.

Graduation and study requirements
The course is over a period of several months, but in order to be able to call yourself a doula, you must complete the course and the accompanying projects. Overall, it can be expected that the learning process will take up to two years, which is longer than the course days indicate. Support is available during the course.
The program is open to anyone interested in doula work. To graduate as a doula, you must participate in all study days (90% attendance required), complete assignments and read the reading material. In addition, you must attend three births after the program begins.
